Remote Area Medical Philippines faced an ironic problem: their volunteer application process was a barrier to volunteering.
The organization relied on a website with an intimidating registration flow with dozens of fields, no progress indicators, and a user experience that felt more like an obstacle course than an invitation to help. For an organization dependent on volunteer goodwill, this friction was costly. Beyond registration, RAM also lacked visibility into their mission impact. With no way to showcase the reach and scale of their medical missions, they struggled to attract both volunteers and organizational partners who needed to see tangible evidence of their work.
We redesigned RAM's volunteer experience from the ground up, guided by one principle: people who want to help shouldn't have to work hard to do so. We streamlined the registration into a logical, progressive flow with clear visual indicators showing volunteers exactly where they are in the process. By ruthlessly editing down to essential fields only and organizing information into digestible steps, we transformed what was once a deterrent into an invitation.
Beyond registration, we built an interactive mission visualization system that brings RAM's impact to life. An interactive map of the Philippines displays every location where RAM has conducted medical missions, while detailed mission pages show the number of people served, services provided, and communities reached. This data-driven approach gives potential volunteers and partners immediate, tangible proof of RAM's reach and effectiveness. We also engineered an intuitive CMS that allows RAM's non-technical team to easily update mission data and content, ensuring the site stays current without requiring developer intervention.
